Asphodel Coaching is a coach development pathway for coaches who lead group training sessions. It has three programs, each building on the one before: Coaching Under Pressure, Coaching in Complexity and Coaching at Scale.
The material comes from years of coaching in our own facilities. It includes what we got right, what we got wrong, and what we would have wanted someone to tell us earlier.
-
A certification teaches you what to coach. It gives you the theory, the movement standards and the basics of programming. What it can't fully prepare you for is the room itself: a full class, a clock that keeps running, and a group of athletes who each need something different.
Our programmes pick up where certification leaves off. They focus on the decisions you make on the floor, in real time, and on the habits that make those decisions better over time.
-
Working coaches who are based in a gym or field setting. Every program assumes you can already program a session and coach the fundamental movements.
They are written for coaches who run group classes and want to improve the parts of the job that a certification doesn't cover.
-
The pathway is designed to be taken in order, starting with Coaching Under Pressure.
You may be ready for Coaching in Complexity when you can stay calm without having to work at it, explain why you chose not to intervene, improve from one session to the next, coach a busy class without raising your voice, and be trusted alone on the floor.
Coaching at Scale suits coaches whose role now includes developing other coaches or setting standards for a team.
-
It is designed for early- to mid-career coaches with roughly two to five years of experience. You know the basics, but busy classes test you. You might over-talk, over-cue or freeze in certain moments.
You may feel that the quality of your coaching depends on keeping class numbers down. If that sounds familiar, this course was written for you.
It does not teach programming, the mechanics of class planning, or how to coach individual exercises. We expect you to bring those with you.
The six lessons cover observation, orientation, decision-making, coaching language, action on the floor and reflection. By the end of the course you should be able to stay calm when the room gets chaotic, identify what matters right now, decide when to step in and when to leave it alone, and get more from fewer words.
-
Each program is self-paced and online, and it is applied on the coaching floor. You work through online learning modules, real coaching scenarios, applied assignments and structured reflections, and you receive feedback on your coaching along the way. Each program finishes with a final assessment.
The idea is simple. You learn it, you take it into your sessions, and you look closely at what happened.
-
Yes. Every program includes regular touch-points with one of our most experienced coaches, who acts as your mentor. You won't be left to work through the material on your own.
-
Each program carries an estimated six to eight contact hours of study, with on-floor practice alongside it.
The programs are designed to run over roughly two to three months.
-
Yes. Each program includes a full reference list. The core ideas draw on published work in decision-making, motor learning, skill acquisition and coach education.
-
Each programme ends with a written final exam of 40 questions. It combines multiple-choice questions, applied short-answer questions and case-based scenarios.
You need to answer at least 80% of the questions correctly to pass.
